Jesús Melgarejo, MD, PhD

Assistant Professor at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley

Jesús Melgarejo, MD, PhD, is a physician-scientist dedicated to multidisciplinary clinical and epidemiological research. His long-term research interests focus on understanding the role of 24-hour blood pressure in the development and progression of neurological age-related diseases, such as glaucoma, cerebral small vessel diseases, cognitive decline, Alzheimer’s disease, and cardiovascular complications. Dr. Melgarejo aims to enhance the risk stratification of age-related diseases by studying circadian rhythms and variability in blood pressure. He is committed to conducting innovative and practical research that tests hypotheses essential for transforming public health initiatives and clinical practices, particularly in underserved communities. Currently, he is shifting his research efforts toward examining how social determinants of health influence the regulation of the vascular system and disorders related to Alzheimer’s disease.
