Texas Public Radio: San Antonio researcher finds that cholesterol levels may predict Alzheimer’s risk

This article from Texas Public Radio, notes research from the Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer’s and Neurodegenerative Diseases at UT Health San Antonio, a South Texas Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, suggests that cholesterol levels, particularly high LDL (“bad” cholesterol), may be linked to an increased risk of developing dementia. Sokratis Charisis, MD, analyzed data from the Framingham Heart Study and confirmed that while high LDL is known to raise heart disease risk, it also significantly raises the likelihood of developing dementia.
